District 2 Republican run off race, then please don't vote for Ruth Stover. She is against legalizing liquor by the drink on Sunday in Payne County and so in Stillwater. She seems to think that Stillwater people are still not grown up enough to handle drinking in restaurants and bars on Sunday. Her opponent supports bringing the issue to a vote and thinks allowing it would make for good economic sense by helping to attract convention business from Oklahoma CIty and Tulsa.

In Stover's words: "No, I don't think we should be selling alcohol on Sunday. If we have the kind of function that wants to have an open bar on a Sunday afternoon in downtown Stillwater, I would rather them go to Tulsa to do that sort of thing."

Oh, please Ms. Stover, we're also concerned about restaurants, not just bars. The new Olive Garden can't offer so much to its diners as 25 cent samples of its wine on Sundays. Further more, as strict as city law is against allowing bars to open on Sunday, they still won't be able to open on Sunday, if liquor by the drink on Sunday passes.

Why should I go on feeling like a child living in a nanny state when I go into the Texas Roadhouse to its bar on Sunday and see tops of liquor bottles covered by paper cups?
