I've recently noticed these:

popping up all over town. They appear to be wireless "mesh" network routers from Tropos Networks. Searching through utility authority meeting agendas of the last two years, I see that they are implementing a system for automatic meter reading, starting with water meters. It looks like this mesh network will be the means to get the water (and eventually, electric) meter info back to "HQ".

Do you folks know if the mesh network is planned for other uses? For example, police and emergency services?

Interestingly, Ponca City has a municipal mesh network that is available for public internet access!

Are the really this obtuse to let the present recall procedures stand.

Now darrell said something interesting but apparantly he is confused.

I think that as an elected official if someone doesn’t like the way I’m representing them, they don’t need to give a reason,” said Councilor Darrell Dougherty, who filed the petition that led to Bates’ recall election. “They just need to say that we the electing body don’t like the way we’re being represented.”

Darrel did you forget that when a petition was filed on you for a recall that you cried like a two year old and filed a lawsuit on the petition originator.

How did stillwater get stuck with these two sad excuses for councilman?

The city council is scheduled to review the worthless recall procedures and will hopefully begin a serious revision of the standard of proof required to initiate that process. As it is now, anyone can make even the most absurd allegations whether true or not and cost the tax payers thousands of dollars. (are you listening DD and Hopkins?) Setting some standard of proof beyond he say she say and ambiguous references to unfounded accusations is mandatory. I hope the citizens on Stillwater will involve themselves in this revision process and let their voices be heard. We need to avoid now and forever another fiasco like the one that was perpetrated on our city by Hoppy and DD.

The idea of mandating the amount spent per student seems a good idea, but I've heard that it does not give a means for provide finances for it. I have heard this could create budget cuts in other necessary areas, or possibly raise taxes. True or scare tactics?

That's what I think I witnessed on the way home last night. I felt bad seeing those kids out there, but when i got home and saw that a 27 year old had died mowing a lawn yesterday in OKC, it hit me that making young children practice football in full pads and helmets when my car registered 103 is child abuse. I can't believe parents have lost all threads of common sense and are allowing their children to practice in this heat. The high school isn't practicing yet, and OSU is taking precautions to avoid the heat, but by God let's get those 1st graders out in this heat so that we can keep up with the Jenks 1st graders.

I've got news for you Stillwater, you won't be keeping up with the Jenks, Union, South Moore teams for another 50 years, until Stillwater becomes a suburb of OKC & Tulsa where we will be able to recruit from both metro areas. All you're doing is burning out the desire to play by some kids that might contribute by the time they are in 12th grade. With the size of our school, we need every single prospect to stay in the program until they graduate, but killing them in 1st grade does more harm then good.

Stop the abuse before we make the headlines by killing a child! Stop the practices unless the practice is carried out in less than 90 degree heat.:Out of Order:
